Plot

” fan. As Ramu was born on the same day of MGR’s death, his grandfather wants Ramu to become an MGR. He wishes his grandson to be a good-doer. Ramu appears to be a good-doer in front of his grandpa. He becomes a cop. When a hacking group become a threat to the government, Ramu is involved in getting them red-handed. However, Ramu’s grandfather witnesses Ramu’s real character. What happened to him? Was Ramu able to change his attitude and live up to his grandfather’s expectations? The rest of the story follows this.
Star Performance
Karthi fits perfectly in any role, whether it is a serious role or comedy, cop or thief, or in a sentimental role. He does all such roles in this movie, as usual. His mannerisms and body language are perfect. Rajkiran is impressive as the elderly man who wishes his grandson to be a do-gooder as his matinee idol. Krithi didn’t have a superb role, yet she did her part satisfactorily. The rest of the actors are good in their respective roles.
Analysis
The film didn’t have a unique story. It is just another baddie-to-hero kind of story, which Karthi has done already. However, the screenplay makes us sit through. It didn’t bore us, but engaged us throughout the runtime. The film has many interesting scenes and Karthi has a lot of space to perform. Thanks to Nalan’s screenplay, which takes the film interesting throughout. Krithi has a limited role, yet it is well-written. The second half is predictable and has repeated scenes. However, the film moves at a brisk pace. The visuals are good. The editing should’ve been better in the second half. Santhosh Narayanan’s remixes are good.

Verdict
If the repeated scenes had been trimmed, and if a few interesting additions had been made, it would’ve been better. However, Karthi’s Vaa Vaathiyaar is a Pongal treat not only to his fans, but for the general audience, too.
